The Sufi Naqshbandi Shaykh Asif Farooqi has been arrested by police in Manchester. This is very shocking, since he lectures only on spirituality.

Does anyone have any further details?

You need to call and tell the police that he is not a salafi and therefore not a terrorist.

I used to live not to far away from where this raid took place... We used to live bolton...

how many muslim have been arrested in terror raids in full blaze of media publicity - only for them in a few days later to release without charge.... I suspect this will be another episode of police acting rashly...

Yes, inshallah I will be making the point to them that he does not fall into the salafi grouping and which as we know is where most of the extremists today come from.

I think salafis like yourself should continue attacking deobandis, it will help them move away from the salafism which has corrupted some of their views.

Strange that, Salafis like Omar Bakri and Anjem Chaudary never get arrested, despite everything they do publically

and here an old Sufi man never made any extremist statement, never been on the media to wallow in publicity, who is alot of good work in the community such as actually correcting young men into spirtually invigorated human beings who serve their community, gets arrested.

Its almost as though Salafi big mouth extremists are being used as an excuse to raid and disrupt the activities of productice Muslims. Maybe thats why Salafis are given so much platform to shoot of their extremism?
Given platforms to make stupid extremists statements so that the establishment can use it as an excuse to demonise up muslims, raid our homes, spy on us and pass laws that persecute us.

Sufis need to grow up.When it's some average joe, they are quick to say "oh they must be salafi" "they must be a nutter" and such, but when it's their own, look at how fast that freedombolton website has been set up.

Suddenly when it's their own, the concern for civil liberties surfaces.

Alterego, you are a vile individual. I dont know what religion you follow, but to say that about an inidividual, regardless of his or her belief is outright disgusting. What evidence do you have for your accusations. He is one of the best shaykhs in the country, and you just have to look at te current climate and people testimony in his favour reagrdlessof religion, colour, creed to see that. You not by any chance a khwarij, takfeeri or the xtreme version of barelwi which you get, what do they call them again - oh, never mind.

Your are correct, it shouldnt be about groupism when it comes to mainstream issues.
However Muslims need to debate the causes of extremism, so we can see what the problem is.
On this forum alone anyone can see extremist salafis are spamming their propaganda, yet people seem to be silent over that.
These extremists provide an excuse for the police to disrupt and malign normal muslims like Shaykh Farooqi.

The poster is of salafi background, and thats what a lot of salafis think about deobandis. That they are disgusting deviants and innovators. I find it funny that deobandis want to 'hang out' with these type of people.
