Categorizing American Islamophobes

You may be interested in this posting on the blog of American revert Umar Lee, which groups US Islamophobes into 5 categories:

Category 1: The Seed Planters

Examples: Steve Emerson, Daniel Pipes, Bernard Lewis
Usual Profession: Academics
Main Motivation: Zionism

Category 2: The Theological Warriors

Examples: Robert Spencer, Craig Winn, Pat Robertson
Usual Profession: Christian preachers
Main Motivation: Religious bigotry

Category 3: The Media Voices

Examples: Michael Savage, Sean Hannity, Fox News, Ann Coulter
Usual Profession: Radio and TV personalities
Main Motivation: Money

Category 4: The Fringe

Examples: LGF, Joe Kaufman, Jewish Task Force
Main Motivation: Racism

Category 5: The Politicians

Examples: George W Bush, John McCain, miscellaneous Republican politicians
Usual Profession: Politicians
Main Motivation: Need to court the anti-Islam vote

Could a similar system be used to classify British Islamophobes?

This is quite funny. I think the British equivalents run parallel, except with old-fashioned aggressive nationalist/patriots in place of the Christians.

Would Melanie Phillips be a Category 1 or a 3? I suspect 1, because Zionism seems to be her main motivation.

Also, I don't think that British imperialists could really be compared to American neo-Crusaders - AFAIK the British Empire never persecuted Muslims in its colonies. I suspect the only extreme threat to Muslims in Britain and Europe comes from racists.

I think the Protestant extreme right in the US has its origins in the Scotch-Irish (cousins of Ulster's Protestants). I suspect that Ulster has too few Muslims though for Islamophobia to be an issue there.

I don't see why someone can't be in both categories. They may be willing to act as seed planters for free on ideological grounds, but are very happy to rake in some cash whilst at it.
I suppose it's like being a footballer, actor, model or singer: get paid to do what you most enjoy!
