Sikhs join Muslims in Kashmir cartoon protests

SRINAGAR, India - A group of Sikhs joined thousands of Muslims in Indian-administered Kashmir Friday to protest the publication of Danish caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed.

The biggest demonstration was held in Kupwara district in northern Kashmir, 100 kilometres (62 miles) from the summer capital, Srinagar, where a group of Sikh youths joined around 10,000 protestors who took to the streets after Friday prayers.

"We are living together and have decided to join the protest to express our solidarity with the Muslims," said Jasbir Singh, a local religious leader who offered the Sikh community's "full support and cooperation" in an address to the demonstrators.

The protests ended peacefully with speakers calling for those responsible to be punished for "hurting the sentiments" of Muslims across the globe, eye-witnesses said.

Srinagar remained calm as authorities made elaborate security arrangements around important mosques in preparation for protests.

    salaam

its strange when we see the christians and sikjhs and others come to our aid in such a situation it completeley alters the way we think about them and it opens our hearts towards them.

yet when events for example like the new orleans floods happened the muslims were nowhere to be seen, if we had put an effort to give money and time and comfort to those people, it would probably have led to none of them converting but it would have opened their eyes and hearts towards muslims. they may have thought that what they heard and read was not what the muslims were portraying but instead people like me were thinking this is the punishment of allah on the americans and a chance was lost.

these chances in this world will occur all the time and i would like us to act as the quote goes by imam ali to malik e ashtar when sending him to be a commander in a town which was half muslim and half non muslim, he said : O malik remember half of them are your brothers in faith and the other half are your equals in humanity

nicely put, i think there have been many instances with regards to the new orleans catastrophe where muslim played a role in helping the ones in need. but yes we need to broaden our helping hands....

I believe that is quite insulting seeing as Muslims did do a lot and were amongst the largest aid donors, check your facts.
