Hijab Is a Symbol of the Highest Level of Civilization, Says Noble Prize Winner
    http://themuslim.ca/2012/04/28/hijab...-prize-winner/

A Priceless Quote from a Confident Muslim Woman

Nobel Peace Prize winner Tawakkul Karman (Left) and Hillary Clinton
Nobel Peace Prize winner "Tawakkul Karman," 'The mother of Yemen's revolution,' when asked about her Hijab by journalists and how it is not proportionate with her level of intellect and education, replied:

“Man in early times was almost naked, and as his intellect evolved he started wearing clothes. What I am today and what I’m wearing represents the highest level of thought and civilization that man has achieved, and is not regressive. It’s the removal of clothes again that is a regression back to the ancient times.

    Coment:

Lol, a very powerful and true quote.

i don't know the basis for saying that people from early civilisations went about naked? sounds like an offshoot of those afro-centric evolution theories... not very practical.

so is she saying that women who don't wear the hijab are regressive? and are burkha-clad afghans the result of a more enlightened culture than her own?

I think she is stating that stripping down to nearly your back side and walking the streets is regressive.

but that's not what she said.

her comments suggest a straightforward progression from nudity towards complete covering depending on the stage of civilisation that a society has reached.

seems a bit simplistic to me.

It's absolute rubbish though. What you wear does not define you as a person. What it does do is put people into nice little groups for anyone to judge. Hoodies, anyone? It's how you behave in society that counts.

    Good on her.

Don't think there is any need to overanalyse the remark which was presumably made to sound grand considering the award she has been given. The essentials are correct: What Islam has taught is progressive, and attemts by anyone to label those teachings as regressive in fact stem from jahilliyah.

Her comments seem as a response to the above line of questioning, rather than a spontaneous attack on people who prefer going commando.

Would you trust a hoodie to babysit your kids?

Would you let someone wearing a dog collar baby sit your kids ?

"Clothes maketh the man" so said Mark Twain and there must be some truth in that since we make a lot of judgements on people at first glance by their clothes.

Sisters who wear hijab have usually had to struggle a bit harder in this society to wear what is in Islam a command from Allah so Inshallah they will be rewarded for it.

Maybe you make a lot of judgements based on first glance of people's clothes. I try not to! You make a clear judgement in the statement below.

A few years ago I was sitting in a pub garden overlooking the Thames in London, with my best friend from Uni. We were on the North bank, and he said to me "This side good people, other side bad people". Much as I found that amusing, it is as bad as being racist. Not everyone in a hoodie is a bad person. Not everyone ina hijab is a good person. Not everyone in a dog collar is either a dog or a peodo. The world isn't black and white, and neither are people.

I don't think they'd invented the sewing machine around the time humans were wandering around with clubs.
Now, ladies in clubs wander around as if the sewing machine hadn't been invented.

UK society has taken a step backwards.

sounds like you believe in human evolution theory - in which case, you should know that running around half-naked is advantageous to propagation of genes (if not morals) into the next generation.

the point is that man didn't evolve from naked cave monkeys so the idea that clothing has also evolved to eventually cover the entire body is also wrong.

Depends on the branding....I'd trust someone in a Champion Hoody with nothing but the two small C logos (one on the left side of chest and one on the left lower arm) far more than I would trust someone wearing a Nike.
