Interesting article. This trend has been more noticable in recent years though one of the ladies lack of political engagement, for want of a better word is abit depressing.

dont u think thats a bit wrong?"The other girls who were working with us left." Shumaila said. "They found the new environment a bit unfriendly."
Kind of Jamie.
The company must have forced through a dress code - like it or lump it type of one.
In my last visit to Pakistan I've noticed less and less woman who are uncovered.
I concur and thinking back to when I first went to Pakistan in the late 1970's then the women were wearing anything and everything, no dapata, full make up, it was a different world but then Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was on his modernisation trip, I think the change is for the better.

If there is anything that I have observed in Pakistan is that it parades around being religious but nobody really wears Islam on their sleeve. They are all down trodden in their demeanour. Life seems hard there. Culture overrules Islam in every way. In some instances Islam bends to the will of culture and culture then rigidly becomes Islam.
I hope these women who are discovering Islam through their own initiative and their own motivation don't invest into the false Islamic beliefs; that we see openly supporting oppression.
Good for these women, time will tell if they make any impact.

pakistani female politicians are very progressive.... they manage to match their male peers in lies and corruption despite the restrictions of the quasi-modest dress code.

I think that's because the nature of the job is to appease the mass population to gain power.
You really can't blame a politician if the population they serve is too easy to appease and even more lazy in following up.
Want to blame a politician, blame the people too.
