Default Inayat Bunglawala and Mehdi Hasan now back Ed Husain

    Interesting developments.

First Mehdi Hasan writes in support of Ed Husain:

Then Inayat defends Ed on T.I blog. Inayat writes:

    AA everyone,

I read Mahbub’s piece and believe it is an impressive response to Mad Mel’s Spectator column.

We do not have to agree with the other remarks Mahbub has made elsewhere to recognise that this particular Cif piece was actually very good.

We have to allow room for past mistakes to be realised and repented for. Do we not wish for our own mistakes and sins to be forgiven? So how can we close the door on someone like that?

We should accept the good the Mahbub does – and his Cif piece clearly fell into that category – and let him know when we think he has erred.

I want to see Mahbub and the Quilliam Foundation move away from the Zionists that have befriended them in recent years. It will not happen if he gets cold-shouldered by Muslims when he tries to do the right thing.

See also Mehdi Hasan’s excellent response in the New Statesman blogs:

Melanie Phillips' response to 'Ed' is very interesting:

    http://www.spectator.co.uk/melanieph...n-and-me.thtml

Rather than challenge Mad Mel during their meetings, as claimed in the Cif article, 'Ed' agreed with her extreme views:

I remarked how amazing it was that the anti-Israel ‘progressive’ Left supported ethnic cleansing in the putative state of Palestine through their core demand that the Israeli settlers had to be removed from that territory. After all, there was in principle no reason why the settlers couldn’t just be left there and become citizens of a state of Palestine whose boundaries could simply be drawn around them. This was impossible, however, because the Palestinian position was that no Jews could be citizens of Palestine – a racist position supported by the ‘anti-racist’ Left.

‘You are absolutely right!’ he exclaimed. ‘What a brilliant point! Why don’t you make it more vigorously?’
So 'Ed' agrees with the Likudniks who insist that the settlers should remain on West Bank land! Somehow I don't think this will gain him support amongst Muslims.
