There are limited capability nuclear devices that would devastate a small city and no more.

If ever their backs were against the wall (or the sea ) then I'm sure they'd have no hesitation about using them.

Wrong. Best guess estimates based on Israel's known plutonium production capability and reserves indicate between 100 - 250 warheads with a top estimate of 400.

Ah, I think I misunderstood your post. You are suggesting their weapons are individually of the relatively low yield variety, right?

'muzzylogic', do you think Israel will ever use the Samson option?

If they were faced with the prospect of total defeat at the hands of a combined invasion force, possibly. I would hope not, but who can say with any certainty?

After all, you don't build a nuclear stockpile you have no intention of using under any circumstances.

Yes I would have thought so...though that's not saying they may also have some high yield weapons.

Hezbollah could cause Israel all sorts of problems in the north and divert attention from Gaza, but at a catastrophic cost to the whole of Lebanon.
I wouldn't write off Iran so quickly, but the Arab countries are indeed sick jokes due to their illegitimate regimes.

Did you know that when the Israelis attacked Egyptian airfields at the start of the 1967 war, the Egyptian radar was actually switched off? The Egyptian government was paranoid that anti-regime elements in the military would try to shoot down the Defence Minister's plane!

Similarly, in the same war, the Syrians could have kept the Golan Heights if they'd sent a crack brigade their to defend it, but when Hafiz al-Assad (then Syrian Defence Minister) suggested this the Ba'ath leader Salah Jadid personally beat him up, explaining that he needed the brigade to deter internal rebels. (Assad got his revenge in 1970, in the shape of a successful coup).

Arab dictators are the kind of people who would rather rule in hell than serve in heaven.
