Record number of Britons quit UK

The number of people migrating from the UK has reached record levels, official Government figures show.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said long-term migration from the country reached 385,000 in the year to July 2006, the highest figure since current counting methods were introduced in 1991.

A number of long-term migrants who arrived in the UK in the same period was 574,000, slightly down on the previous year.

Overall, the population of the country rose 0.6% in the year to 60,587,000.

The data revealed that in 2005/06, 74,000 people from the Eastern European countries which joined the European Union in May 2004 arrived in the UK - a much lower figure than the number registered to work by the Home Office in separate statistics.

The ONS' figures indicated that 16,000 from the so-called A8 countries left the UK in the same period.

A quarter of babies born in the UK now have a foreign mother or father, the figures showed.

"We have figures for the contribution of mothers and fathers born abroad and that has risen slightly from under 20% in 2001 to slightly over 25% now," said an ONS spokesman.

"That reflects the cumulative effect of immigration over the last 40 years."

In total there was an increase in births in the year to 734,000 compared with 663,000 in the year to mid 2002.

I am not surprised many people want to leave the UK. Its a very strange place to live lately.

I am blessed that in my Job I could emigrate almost anywhere for work and have them pay for it, but my Wife is very close to her family, so we stay here.

There's much to love about Britian, but much that is unpleasant too, and I would liek to live with sunshine and the ocean nearby without paying a zillion pounds for it.

One day we may be able to emigrate but alas not soon.

I can see what they are thinking, i mean i idon't want to grow old in blighty, to be abused by chavs, shown no respect and lead a cold and distant existence. I think many more will follow in the coming years.

I know this is a bit off-topic,but I found this on a hilarious website taking the mick out of Chavs..

    How to spot a Chav

Chavs have such a tribal dress code that you can spot one yards away! Now what makes the Chavs attire so funny is that they think they are at the cutting edge fashion and that by adorning their body with hunks of worthless 9ct gold crap they look rich! In reality what they do look like are a bunch of f***ing pikeys! With this handy field guide, if you count more than 2 points on a single person, you are almost certainly looking at a Chav!

    Sportswear
    Baseball Cap
What can I say? I'm convinced that male Chavs are issued with a Baseball Cap at birth! Disregard caps worn at a jaunty angle or back to front, the Chav will use his cap peak to conceal his identity to the max! Look out for the particularly hideous Burberry variant as pictured left!
    1 Point

    Sportswear
    Banded Shirts and Jackets
Forget Savile (yes, that's Savile, Dominic!) Row tailoring, what your Chav about town likes to be seen wearing is branded sportswear! The bigger the brand name on the garment, the better! Look out for what was this summers classic, the pink Nickelson polo shirt and this winters classic, the sky blue McKenzie hoody!
    1 Point

    Sportswear
    Trainers
Most Chavs don't actually own a pair of shoes. All they have are white trainers. Like all Chav attire, a prominent, Chav respected brand name is a must! Also the Chavs trainers must be clean(prison white) to make it look like they were purchased just that day! Look out for the Reebok Classics as pictured left!
    1 Point

    Jewellery
    Thick Gold Chains

Do you remember watching 'The A Team' as a kid? Do you remember those thick gold chains Mr. T used to wear? This is what you should be looking for! Size matters, only count a chain if it's at least 5mm thick! Don't be put off it's a rainy day, Chavs will wear their chains outside of any garment on full display!
    1 Point

    Jewellery
    Big Hoopy Gold Earrings
Nothing says 'filthy chavster' quite like a nice thick pair of big hoopy gold earrings! When I say big, I mean a inside diameter of at least 2 inches! If you see someone with earrings so big they rest on the wearers shoulders, you are in the presence of Chav royalty!

I think that the BNP would quite like it if members of this forum left the UK.

I'm looking at buying my ticket tomorrow.

Not happy with the state the place is going but my wife is in indonesia and I need to get to her smartish. Been apart far too long as it is.
She has no interest to come here and frankly with some of the reaction I've had when some people have found out my wife is a "paki muslim" I'm wondering if it's a good idea for her to come anyway.
Bought a house out there now and I understand there are some cheap flights available to book from tomorrow.

I think you're doing the right thing. This country HAS gone to the dogs and was already a dump many years ago..we just didn't notice it until the crime went through the roof. The weather's rubbish and the general culture is selfish and cold. Unfortunately, many people don't have families abroad and, let's face it, where is safe these days?!

I didn't notice the weather that much until I started going to other countries.
I never really considered the yob culture was anything other than normal until the first time I was out in KL on a saturday night and there was no trouble.
In yorkshire I still think that most people still don't act in a selfish manner and tend to be fine with each other.

Still my new place has a palm tree in the garden and I can't wait to return to my wife so I think I'm making a good move or at least it feels right if a little scarey.
I'm hoping coruption won't be too big a problem with visa renewals.

Usually European countries like France, Germany, Spain or Italy, or to ex-British Territories. South Africa is still pretty popular, along with Caribbean islands.

One of the main reasons people leave is prices, particularly property prices, in which the United States is worse. Most British are pretty intolerant of Americans anyway and wouldn't live there even if they spend their holidays there.

personally i been to few places...and as much as britain has its issues...nothing is quite like it...its a fast and furious country...people are far too cynical and negative...the best thing about the UK is its weather, countryside...nothing quite like it.

no place suddenly becomes/is, pretty and airy fairy...but the whole idea of working toward 'togetherness' works, even if the government shows to be something else...

It's true - people are friendlier and generally better natured the more North you go. Maybe this is what you call the great North-South Divide..

Don't be! If you visit up North, you will notice the difference.

I am from London, myself and never get offended by such remarks, because I know it's true, sadly.
