Default Doctors Give In To Muslims

    DOCTORS GIVE IN TO MUSLIMS

    http://www2.dailyexpress.co.uk/posts...sts/view/16309

DOCTORS and health workers have been banned from eating lunch at their desks - in case it offends their Muslim colleagues.

Health chiefs believe the sight of food will upset Muslim workers when they are celebrating the religious festival Ramadan.

The lunch trolley is also to be wheeled out of bounds as the 30-day fast begins next month.

But staff and politicians branded the move political correctness gone mad and warned that it was a step too far.

Bill Aitken, the Scottish Conservative justice spokesman, said: “This advice, well-meaning as it may be, is total nonsense.

“It is the sort of thing that can stir up resentment rather than result in good relations.”

The new guidance comes in the wake of the failed terror attacks on Glasgow and the death of suspect Kafeel Ahmed, 27.

Health chiefs in Lothian and Glasgow will give all employees time off to pray and to celebrate Eid, which marks the end of Ramadan.

But Greater Glasgow and Clyde as well as Lothian NHS boards also issued the advice, warning workers not to take working lunches, and said all vending machines should be removed from areas where Muslims work.

One senior consultant said: “What next? Are we going to have advice on how to deal with Catholics during Lent?
“This kind of thing does more harm than good.”

The guidance, which was sent round many organisations, was produced by Glasgow consultancy Meem, which advises on Muslim issues and counts the Scottish Parliament among its clients.

Na’eem Raza, a senior consultant with the firm, said he was thrilled that the health boards had formally adopted the guidance.

He added: “The idea is to get faith in the workplace out in the open.

“In the current climate, people need to understand where communities are coming from and what people are feeling.

“After the Glasgow attack this is very important. This is about educating people and making them more aware and more confident when dealing with issues surrounding the Muslim community.

“People have stopped talking over the garden fence and we need to break down the barriers so that people can talk comfortably to each other.

“It would never stir up resentment. Faith is an important issue. Why not have guidance on all of the issues that affect us, including different faiths?”

Health chiefs defended their use of the guidance and said it was important to promote a positive and tolerant culture at work.

A NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde spokesman said: “As a large organisation we recognise that many of our staff, patients and visitors will be participating in Ramadan.

“We have therefore made information available to our staff to raise awareness of Ramadan and help to answer any questions they may have.”

NHS Lothian said: “We have recently agreed a quality and diversity strategy and as a responsible and pro-active employer we will continue to promote a positive culture which recognises and respects diversity both in our workforce and in the people we serve

    ....................................

Me for one does not agree with the above. Just because there are vending machines around that is not going to affect the abilities of hospital staff who fast. To create inconvenience for others, where there is no effect on the individual who is fasting, i find it absorbed that such changes have been suggested. Next they will have a no eating policy so as not to offend Muslims

Lets put it this way we Muslims have been in the UK for well over 60 years, in all those years we have managed quite well in fasting in the UK environment. What changes we do need, we do not get, what we don’t really need, we get

we do not need any special treatments during ramadhan...infact isnt it one of the many reasons..that when we see food we are to quench our hunger?

These Anglo Saxons do not really understand what fasting is. The nearest thing they have is lent, and that is a joke, so when they see Muslims who do not eat or drink anything, they think that this is indeed something. What these people do not understand is by fasting we are showing to Allah(SWT) are belief in Allah(SWT) and our will to face and sacrifice any hardship through fasting. That is what fasting is all about, we do not need some one to remove something that is not even a blip on radar when we are fasting.

Totally agree with the rest of you guys. this will only bring resentment. I happily fast with other colleagues around me eating. My lunch break is normally spent at the mosque anyway. I go shopping on saturdays even in Ramadhan, surrounded by food, how will I cope!!!

This is a bloody stupid idea, and I'm pleased to see the uniform common sense approach by everyone who's replied thus far. A great barrier to Muslim/non-Muslim relations are liberal-minded idiot do-gooders who end up doing things no Muslim would ever ask for (like banning the word Christmas) and irritating just about everyone. Whoever thought of this idea is a complete moron.

These Anglo Saxons do not really understand what fasting is

I am an Anglo Saxon, br ash and I understand what fasting is. I also know many other members of my church ( Anglo Saxon, Italian, Afro-Caribbean ,east European and many others) who like me fast regularly in prayer. Not "observant" fasting like ramadhan, but unscheduled fasting in support of prayer.

So I claim that your sweeping statement is wrong.

This PC nonsense is borne of UK WASP employers being so terrified of accusations of racism that they in fact inconvenience all employees as a gesture that was not even asked for by the minority in question.

Like my own council who tried to ban images of pigs, and even Christmas decorations in case they offended Muslim employees despite not one single complain being received from them.

Such clueless do-gooders do NOTHING positive for the cause of muslims or any other minority IMO.

...but create resentment of Muslims in the wider community. I wish these do-gooders would ask me to these meetings. I'd take a big size 12 Champal (slippers) to them first

Another example (from the Daily Mail weeks ago, I think) is of a guy who wanted to open a restaurant called the Fat Buddha. He wasn't allowed to because it might offend Buddhists. This seems unlikely for 2 reasons:

    1) Buddhism is perhaps the most laid back of all religions

    2) the man in question was himself a Buddhist

    Bloody do-gooders.

The worst thing about all this is headlines pop up which claim we are demanding such things. You then get the usual crowd coming out and saying "we are forgetting our christian heritage etc etc"

Seriously bro! I work with non muslims day in day out and during ramadhan they eat drink in front of me and I don't have a problem with it. They here these type of stories and ask me for my opinion and I'm like what the ****

These groups say they 'consult'. With whom I ask? there was that christmas issue a few years back here in Blackburn and nobody knew which Muslim org was consulted. All they had to do was ring me and I would have told them no it bloody well doesn't offend and shove a cracker where ..............(leave that to your imagination)

EXACTLY so , sir ! By the process of "misheard rumour and lazy journalism this will be received by many eventual readers as being another example of Muslims being unreasonable and banning English fry-ups or some such rabid nonsense when as far as I can see not a SINGLE Muslim asked for, proposed or agrees with this rubbish !

It would be funny if it were not so disappointing.

I have a friend who works for an organisation which provides support to asylum seekerss. They are not allowed to refer to Christmas, have Christmas decorations etc. They have a 'winter wonderland' party. Needless to say the Muslim staff and service users find this quite ridiculous.
