£10M TO HALT TERROR ENLISTERS
14 January 2007
TOWN halls will be given £10million by the Government to help fight Islamic extremism.
The cash will be channelled into youth and community groups in 50 towns and cities with large Muslim populations.
It follows mounting fears that extremists are using colleges and youth groups as recruiting grounds.
Details of the grants will be revealed by Ruth Kelly later this month.
A senior Government source said: "We want to take on those trying to brainwash young British Muslims. Councils and community groups will work with Muslim leaders to tackle fanatics."
The drive follows a warning from America's spy chief John Negroponte last week that al-Qaeda are rebuilding their terror networks in the West.
