Default BNP leader held over anti-Islam comments

    By Gideon Long

    http://www.reuters.co.uk/newsArticle...storyID=638492
LONDON (Reuters) - Police have arrested the leader of the far-right British National Party after he was secretly filmed calling Islam "a wicked, vicious faith".

The arrest of Nick Griffin, one-time host of French National Front leader Jean-Marie Le Pen, was warmly welcomed by Muslims, some of whom said the government should ban the BNP altogether.

The party, an infamous if minor force in politics, described the arrests as "nothing less than a crude attempt to buy back the Islamic vote" -- a vote Prime Minister Tony Blair is thought to have largely lost due to the war in Iraq.

Police arrested Griffin, 45, at his family farmhouse in Wales and took him to West Yorkshire, where officers are conducting an major probe into the activities of BNP members.

His arrest came two days after police detained the party's 70-year-old founding chairman John Tyndall.

They have now arrested 12 people on suspicion of incitement to commit racial hatred since the investigation began five months ago. None has been charged.

The police probe was triggered by a BBC documentary, broadcast in July, which included footage of Griffin giving a speech in the northern town of Keighley in which he railed against the Koran and Islam.

"This wicked, vicious faith has expanded through a handful of cranky lunatics about 1,300 years ago until it's now sweeping country after country," he said.

    "BLOW UP MOSQUES"

Other footage in "The Secret Agent" documentary -- watched by some 4 million viewers -- shows another BNP member expressing a wish to blow up mosques with a rocket launcher and machine-gun worshippers with "about a million bullets."

Another member told how he put dog faeces through an Asian shop's letterbox, while a third described how he beat up a Muslim man. "I'm kicking away ... it was fantastic," he said.

Muslims were jubilant at news of Griffin's arrest.

"At last!" said Massoud Shadjareh, chairman of the Islamic Human Rights Commission, which has long urged the government to outlaw the BNP. "This is extremely important."

"It should have been done long ago. There is no place in British society for the bigots of the BNP," he told Reuters.

The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), the biggest lobby group for the country's 1.8 million Muslims, also welcomed the arrests, saying it hoped police would now press charges.

"The BNP has been trying to develop a more polished image and a more sophisticated discourse but the BBC documentary showed that behind that facade, the ugly reality is still the same," said MCB spokesman Inayat Bunglawala.

Led by Cambridge University graduate Griffin, the BNP has tried to shrug off its 'jack boots and swastikas' image from the 1970s, when Britain was riven by racial tension.

The party's anti-immigration stance has won it a handful of local council seats, mainly in poorer areas with large ethnic populations, but it remains on the fringe of politics.

It has nothing like the clout, for example, of the French far-right of Le Pen, who accepted an invite from Griffin to attend a BNP fund-raising dinner in northern England in April.

I was just reading from another site.

I think it may be politically inspired. We will have to wait and see.

I said yesterday that i thought the move was politically inspired.

There are political moves which are known as a distracters. Conservatives have used distracters when they were in power, but the Labour party has gone over board on distracters.

There are natural distracters and there made up or created distracters.

The reason as to why I said politically motivated was that, if and that is a big if the police/ Home office wanted to prosecute Nick griffins, they would have done it some time ago. All the evidence has been available for some time now.

His arrest yesterday was to distracter slight attention from Blunkets second Visa fiddle. The news media did not go for the Nick Griffin story.

    Today Blunket has resigned.

Matter of time we will see either the charge dropped against Nick Griffin or he only faces minor charges only. Do not expect too much from the next Home Secretary either. He may even drop incitement to religious hatred.

Another distracter that Labour used was, if any one can remember at height of the foot and mouth crises in the UK, a whole shipload of children were drowned. After a couple of days, we all know the story was a complete and utter hype That was when date was coming out showing that the Government was losing the battle.

By the way while I am on the subject of foot and mouth Piers Morgan, Daily Mirror broke the story before the jury delivered there verdict regarding the Leeds United players beating up some Pakistani youth, whose farther Sarfraz's called the attack racist. Why o why many commentators have asked did Daily Mirror made such an error, of printing the story. It was very obvious that a retrial would take place, had any newspaper published such a story. That story alone took the public mind off foot and mouth for a few days. There were quite a few distracters employed at the time of Foot and Mouth crises.

    .

Natural distracters, but then the individual who believe in conspiracies amongst you lot would consider 9-11 a man made distracter. I wonder how much dirty laundry was washed on that date. DTI rings a bell, but then that could have been in relation to another distracter.

We will just have to wait and see.

It's great that these racist swine have been bought to book. Now it's the turn of ALM, HT, MPAC and MAB to face the music.

Most Muslims are still ignorant regarding the true nature of these organisations.

Marmaduke has his nickers in a twist. He complains about Jinnah the farther of Pakistan, being considered as a great leader, when Bangladesh assassinated Sheikh Mujib the farther Bangladesh.

Yet Sheikh Mujib, is supposed to be a great leader

I suppose in Bangladesh to be a great leader, you have to be assassinated by your own people. That is the sign of greatness

Br ASH the Pakistani nationalist masquarading as a concerned Islamic activist ought to read his history. BanghaBondhu Sheikh Mujib was assassinated by rogue army elements who were themselves overthrown by another hero of the Liberation War, Gen. Zia.

Curious that br ASH should find my opinion on this thread offensive. Perchance he is a member of one of these groups and hopes that our security forces wont park his ass in Guantanimo. THats where a lot of Pakistani Talibs and other fundis are ending up, after all.

    Ahh Pakistani nastionalism.....soooo many laffs....

As you are a baby on this forum, please read my missives. Then you will understand who am. Now you to say what you have said, shows that you have got your nickers in a twist

Go to the thread on Al Majrahoon, you will then understand where i come from.

Now, many people did not like Sheikh Mujib, because he was autocratic, and was becoming a dictator. I know many Bangladeshi, who were very happy to see him go. They even celebrated on his death. So I do not know where you are coming from.

Gen Zia, was no different, your selection of heroes is going from bad to worse.

Did you know that the very people who are running Guantanimo, Bush and his cronies, are the very people who have always backed Pakistan. Did you know that General Haig, in America came out and defended Pakistan, on West Pakistan, now Bangladesh and on the Issue of Nuclear test, as being justifiable, as a response to India aggression. Fox news, pro Zionist did not expect the comments. I agree with Haig.

Did you also know that Bangladeshi supported the Taliaban You really are an idiot. You do not know your history. When Russia was in Afghanisatn, Bangladeshi backed Pakistan all the way. And that is a fact. Like I have said you have your nickers in a twist, you do not know what you are talking about.

Did you know that vast demonstration from the Beganli muslims against attack on the Taliban.

So on that basis we should be sending arse to Guantanimo Bay

You do not know your history,

By the way I love my country, that is the UK.

Labour or Conservatives see that it is in our best interest, to see a week Bangladesh. Why, it gives India more clout in its region of influence. I am sure you will agree. That is the current British Foreign policy. Do you know of the pressure that Bangladesh have faced particularly from Britain so as to provide Gas to India. The very fuel that Bangladesh needs to survive in the long term, which it will be forced to purchase in the years to come, from India. You Bangladeshi are really clever.

All you have demonstrated is you have your nickers in a twist

    Salaam,

In all the time I have spent on the internet, I have learnt one important thing; never take on face value the claim that someone is who he/she claims he/she is. I spent a lot of time participating in Muslim forums, Pakistani forums and Bangladeshi forums, and one common thing I have noticed on the latter two was the penchance Hindus had in using false identities and impersonating Muslims and trying to stir up trouble "from within", otherwise known as divide and conquer. Hindus had a nasty habit of impersonating Bengali nationalists and trying to stir up as much trouble as possible, in order to get the Pakistani's to retaliate and get the whole situation to escalate. They nearly succeeded on the Pakistani forum but thankfully, the Islamic minded Pakistani's and Bangladeshi's saw through this attempt and fought off these Hindus.

It's very concerning to see some people react emotionally to "Marmeduke" and his rabble-rousing and in turn insult their Muslim Bengali brothers in return. To divide and conquer is easy, but to reconcilliate is not. Brothers and sisters, I would advise you not to take the claims of this fool at face-value, and not to react in a way he wants you to react.

In these uncertain times for Muslims, our enemies want us to be divided, they especially want to see the very organisations which can lead to Muslim upliftment and enfranchisement rendered useless and ineffective, hence their attacks on various Muslims organisations and attempts to divide us. We'd be fools to fall into that trap. Why was Yusuf al-Qaradawi hounded by the media? Why was Tariq Ramadan banned from working in the USA? Why was he nearly banned from the European social forum? Why was MAB attacked in the British media? It's all a concerted effort to stop us from being socially enfranchised. This attempt by "Marmaduke" is but a microscopic example of the many attacks which came and are coming our way. Be on your guards Brothers and Sisters.

    Wasalaam
