This wedding extravagance is a major problem and it CAN be broken.
Shaykh ul Hadeeth Mawlana Muhammad Zakariyyah got his children married in SUCH simplicity that it was really incredible. We might not be able to ensure our own weddings are as simple as they should be but for sure we can make intention that when our kids time comes we will do it so simply and so purely that ALLAH will accept it.
I for one am alhamdulillah having a mediumish wedding relatively - taking into account Im the first of my brothers to get married, am the first grandson of the hosue to get married - so its relatively simple and alhamdulillah no music and no intermixing - alhamdulillah.
Dont tell my parents - but Im gonna call some Jama'at companions in karachi to my wedding so they can do tableegh there - thats the good thing about karachi - can find righteous people to preach at weddings
Dont get me wrong I go for the relatives sake but usually hang around for as long as necessary or stay away as much as possible from the fitnah. The last wedding the girls side that married the boy from our side had a do on in the evening at a very expensive exclusive hotel and only the girl and her friends and the boy and his friends were invited. Music, dancing and all encouraged by the parents.Originally Posted by ah1999

Eid parties ie, the multi faith/work type of thing. I'm sorry dont agree with them. What the hell have the non muslims got to celebrate?
really - realistically speaking, I understand your dilema - It is not easy with parents, your inlaws and relatives looking towards a wedding and all the expectation they have. It is extremely difficult for someone, to be the lone voice. You will have to do what you think is best for you according to circumstances and take it from there!!!Originally Posted by Salaam
Our Eid Parties are for Muslims only......I cannot recall even one non-Muslim attending in all the years I have been going.Originally Posted by ish264u
Functions include recitation of Quran, a short talk (quite a few times I have given the talk), games/competition where the kids win toys/Islamic books, it's a chance for the kids to get together, adults meet friends/neighbours of the community etc.
Even the timing of the Party is around salah times.
But as you said this is
and what is all this western like wedding in muslim countries such as Egypt and Jordan, with their big revealing dresses, cake, champaign, its disgusting!
I happened to be reading a forum on making weddings cheap on a website for cheapskates this morning. They were discussing things like men to wear their own suits instead of hiring, otherwise getting them second hand. Oh, another way to make it cheap is by not having many friends
I do agree about having it in a place where not many people will have heard of, although with gps systems it could be found easily now Best places will be somewhere like Aberystwyth in Wales where it is hard to get to
Who you try to kid? Asians will find you anywhere as long as free food is available!!Originally Posted by firefoxuser
You ain't seen some of these roads in Wales! My brother once almost got the car stuck because the road was so small with a river very close by. It can be a nightmare to drive. Maybe we should find the hardest place to get to competition and make it a popular location for cheap weddings
If you have family members who get seasick easily then do it on some small island, probably up in the Highlands where they have some strong winds
I agree that they should be fire-bombed.and what is all this western like wedding in muslim countries such as Egypt and Jordan, with their big revealing dresses, cake, champaign, its disgusting!
i went to one perfect wedding
was in the mosque.....with many guests but just some simple food
everyone ate on the floor and all the women were haha not looking so scary.
and it was just great.....and so simple. *sighs*
best wedding is to get married in the mosque and then make it for the next jamaat prayer. such perfection

mashaALLAH - gud poem bruv. And true aswell.
Confusion arises because ppl donít understand what is and isnít Islamic and when it comes to a clash between culture or tradition and Islam why is it that culture and tradition always wins.
when I told my sis-in -law my wedding plans she was telling me how people will talk and say oh its because she is a girl her family didnít spend anything on here blah blah blah - do I care what they think, I am going to my own grave they will go to theirs where they will answer for themselves and I will have to answer for my self.
I aint getting dressed up like a christmas tree sitting on some stage like royality, with enough gold to feed the whole of Africa for a year, no expensive cars - i'll take the bus or call a taxi - hehehehehe
i think someone should start an islamic wedding services agency to organise islamic weddings for people take out the hassle of trying to find out what is and isnt permissible - i had this idea but know very little myself and if it is so simple as nikah and then have something to eat what do you need an organiser for????
That is a top idea - want to do it together?Originally Posted by sami_83

Having seen a 1-2 wedding lately, extravagant all the way. Well they weren't extravagant but had traditional elements as well as modern and people make an effort to dress smartly to attend.
Want to elaborate? Like how the event went? Was it well organised, etc? I'm looking for tipsOriginally Posted by AgtBauer
