The sun is reporting that Muslims are angry at a Postmaster who refused to serve anyone who didnt speak english.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article2333010.ece

Fair enough, but why does the Sun feel the need to report that Muslims are angry. Surely they should be identified as local citizens, or nottinghamites...but noooo, the Sun needs to make out that its the Muslims again that are against the general view

it's because a petition was started among urdu speaking muslims to ask for his removal, which has in fact happened as he is now working elsewhere in the city.

Its just that what has the muslim'ness of those who are complaining got to do with it??

Can they not be local people? Can they not be community people...? Grr...

That depends where the act takes place. It could potentially cause an explosion.

The Asian dude looks well proud, his own little war on terror. :)

Yeah, but what has them being urdu speakers got to do with them being Muslim?

Seriously, this is just the typical of anti-muslim hate that is being peddled in the press. See other threads on this subforum for more examples.

During the Gaza war, alot of the pro-Israelis were Jewish. Yet you will not find a single headline saying "Jews support Israel"...and rightly so, because that headline is wrong. But no, not the same for Muslims

You don't understand.

Try several hundred articles like these being published every year by several newspapers and then bits of it repeated by politicians.

I'd be surprised if you don't develop a siege mentality

I do agree with the postmaster in terms of his customers should be speaking English, it is after all the mother tongue and its a bit unfair to go to a store and expect the owner to speak a multitude of dialects and languages BUT I bet it wasnt just "muslims" kicking up a stink, where does it say that speaking Urdu equates to being a Muslim?? thats like saying all English speakers are Christian!!....typical Sun sensationalist drivel!

It wasn't, Polish people had been boycotting the shop and were more angry than the Muslim people.

Plus, I'd expect the postmaster to at least put in some effort trying to understand the customer, learning a language isn't that easy.

I bet the Sun forgot to mention some of those complaining were white Polish!!?!?!...~sigh~ I do feel for the Postmaster as I say, it may have helped if the non English speakers had somebody with them who could translate, but anyway thats by the by, the Sun has yet again painted it as a muslim issue when clearly it isnt, shame on them

The same paper printed something about the postmaster getting the sack. They have started a petition.

Yep angry Muslims were blamed!

The whole point was that the Post Office effectively sacked him on the grounds that refusing anyone who didn't speak English would mean he would have to block all tourists from using his shop. As the Post Office is a place of exchange, particularly for holiday makers coming here, his treatment of non-English customers went against Post Office practice.

If anything, these places should be more suited to serve non-English people than any other place, and this man is right to have been sacked.

If we go abroad, should we be stopped from shopping in the places especially designed to be foreigner friendly because we don't speak the language?

He was right. People coming to this country should learn English. Post Offices particularly are places where benefits are cashed.

It is the ultimate insult to the British people that taxpayers' money is involuntarily given to people who have so little respect for this country they cannot even be bothered to learn its language.

It is particularly refreshing when 'immigrants' feel this, as well they might - especially when they themselves have gone to the trouble of learning English.

Is that what you call us nowadays? I thought you BNP types just labelled us all Pakis. Or is that behind closed doors. Well we all know that you can't even do that any more because you have undercover journalists amongst your ranks.

When I used to live up north and before I was myself a muslim "Paki" was the generic term for muslim.
