I know that when you can't eat you want more, but I find it sooooooo difficult to understand how some people are packing away sooooooo much food during Ramadan...there must be some serious weight gains this month for many? Surely this sort of goes against the whole principle of Ramadan? Or am I merely the only person who a reduced appetite...

It's amazing - everyone I know has like HUGE meals...

Even the kiddies at work were talking about how the whole table's covered with so much for iftar...

We don't have huge meals as it does indeed defy the entire point of Ramadan. I have lost some weight and I hope to lose more. I am now only eating two meals a day and no snacks.

Excessive eating makes one lazy and it makes one forget Allah swt.

Al hamdu lilahi - that you do not have such huge meals... but many people seem to - a friend of mine said that they have kebab/samosa/kebab and similar foods, then rice, gosht, naans, fruit, as well as a choice of sweets... and they do this throughout the night and Ramadan... having last meal before sleeping - then wake for Sehri and it all starts again... (though don;t imagine could settle for all of that again surely?)

I had kebabs at my sister-in-laws and they made me ill. Far too rich and spicy on an empty stomach.

I think I have heard other people who have feasts like you described but it's not islamically right.

(though don;t imagine could settle for all of that again surely?) Yup I know what you mean.

I just eat a normal meal. I thought most normal Muslims did this too.

We only have a small meal at our house, my weight usually goes down every ramadhan by about half a stone, and that's not really a good thing for me..

last year I gained couple of kilos simply because I had constant cravings for condensated milk  I was eating 2-3 tins of condensated milk per week

This year it's alright, Alhamdullillah. I have my usual portions or even less, simpl because I rather sleep than eat. Besides, I can't be bothered to cook special meals for myself.
