Muslim Solidarity Iftaar (breaking fast during Ramadan) at HMP Belmarsh
An event to remember Muslim prisoners in the UK and Abroad
All Welcome
Date: Sunday 15th October 2006
Time: 4.00-7.00 pm
At: HMP Belmarsh, Western Way, Thamesmead, London SE28 OEB
5 years after 9/11, the number of Muslims in Western prisons continues to soar. These Muslims are not behind bars due their involvement in drug related crime, violence or hooliganism, but are instead prisoners of conscience - prisoners whose only crime has been to voice an opinion. They have either been found guilty _by association_ or are languishing behind bars through laws that permit indefinite detention. They are the fortunate ones.
Other Muslim prisoners have either been subjected to torture and abuse in legal _anomalies_ such as Camp X-Ray, or have disappeared altogether, only to resurface in Gulags of the modern world. All these prisoners have one thing in common - they have all been robbed of their human rights.
This Iftaar has been arranged to remember the plight of these prisoners and their families. Stand up for justice and be counted.
Speakers:
Mohammed al Ghabra (Ex-detainee - Belmarsh)
Uthman Lateef (IRIT)
Asim Qureishi (Cage Prisoners)
Arrangements
Iftaar arrangements include Dates and Milk, and cooked meals for up to 300 attendees. Please bring appropriate clothing in case of weather change.
Voulnteers & Helpers Required
We are looking for helpers for this event, particularly people who can help with food, travel, banners etc.
We are urgently seeking people who live close by to Belmarsh who may be able to help with re-heating of food.
We kindly request every family who come, to kindly bring a thermos or flask of tea or coffee for those who will be fasting, and mark their name on it so it can be returned to them at the end.
Please email campaign@illegal-deathsentence.info for further info on how you can help.
